Model Properties

Model properties let you configure and document the settings that govern how a model behaves, how its objects are named and typed, and what metadata is associated with it. You use the Quick Editor to access these settings, which are organized across a set of tabs. Changes you make in the Quick Editor apply at the model level and affect default behavior throughout the model.

Note: You can use the Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y keyboard shortcuts to undo and redo changes in any property field.

To open the Quick Editor for model properties:

  1. On the model node, select and then select Properties.

The Quick Editor opens and displays the following tabs. Use following table to configure model properties:

    Tab Purpose Section Property Description
General Enter the author and title for the model, and review the target server and version. If the model was reverse engineered, the source database is displayed here. Model Information Name Defines the title of the model
Author Defines the name of the person who is responsible for creating the model
Integration ID Specifies a unique identifier used to link the model with external systems for integration and traceability. For example, Jira.
Type Displays the type of the model. For example, Logical/Physical.
    Target Server and Version

Displays the assigned target DBMS for the model

Notation Logical Notation Specifies either the IDEF1x or the Information Engineering notation preference for a logical model
Physical Notation Specifies either the IDEF1x, Information Engineering, or Data Warehousing notation preference for a physical model
Modeling Features Is Dimensional Activates the dimensional modeling functionality in your model
Data Vault 2.0 Activates the data vault modeling functionality in your model
Data Movement Specifies that you want to enforce data movement rules and sources. This enables you to import and create data sources, data source tables, and columns, and assign data source columns to model columns.
    Defaults

Set default null and data type options, specify default themes, and specify default owner names. Use the Defaults tab to globally reset owner names.

Default Null Options Non-Key Attributes Null Option Specifies whether you can have null as a value for a non-key attribute or column
Non-Identifying Relationship Null Option Specifies whether you can have null as a value for an attribute or a column that has a non-identifying relationship
Default Datatypes Logical Data Type Specifies the default data type for all columns. You can select whether the data type is inherited or overridden.
Physical Data Type Specifies the default data type for all columns You can select whether the data type is inherent or overridden.
Default Theme Theme Specifies the default theme for the model. Your theme includes all the font, color, and formatting options for the model. You use the Theme Editor to work with the formatting options.
Unification Use Data Type In Unification Specifies whether or not you want the default logical and physical datatypes to be used in unification of two or more tables or entities
Migrated Column Options Display Diagram Highlights Specifies the default settings for highlighting the primary and foreign keys on hovering over a relationship line. By default, the Display Diagram Highlights and Bold check boxes are selected. Also, the Color is set to the default one.
    Font Color
    Font Bold
Subtype Restrictions Enforce Relationship Rules Specifies whether a supertype-subtype relationship between two different subtype entities belonging to same or different supertype group should be allowed. By default, the Enforce Relationship Rules check box is selected and such a relationship is not allowed.
RI Defaults Set default referential integrity rules for relationships in the model.   Action Lists a SQL action in each of its rows. For each SQL action, select the default RI action for each of the following relationship type columns:
Identifying Lets you specify the RI setting for each of the SQL actions in the Action column. This setting applies to all identifying relationships in the model.
Non-Identifying, Nulls Allowed Lets you specify the RI setting for each of the SQL actions in the Action column. This setting applies to all non-identifying relationships in the model for which nulls are allowed.
Non-Identifying, No Nulls Lets you specify the RI setting for each SQL action in the Action column. The setting applies to all non-identifying relationships in the model for which nulls are not allowed.
Subtype Lets you specify the RI setting for each of the SQL actions in the Action column. This setting applies to all subtype relationships in the model.
    History Options

Configure the objects and events for which history is tracked in the model.

History Objects Save History For Displays a list of the common model objects. Select the check box for each object for which you want to save history.
